Het is nu zeven jaar geleden dat Alex Chilton, voormalig frontman van Big Star, overleed. Sinds die tijd hebben Chris Stamey van the dB’s, Mike Chills van R.E.M. en Mitch Easter als eerbetoon concerten gegeven waarbij ze ‘Third’, het album van Big Star uit 1978 live speelden. In april 2016 speelden ze een show in L.A. samen met Jeff Tweedy, Robyn Hitchcok, Dan Wilson (Semisonic), Brett Harris, Django Haskin, Skylar Gudasz en vele anderen. Ook het Kronos Quartet uit San Francisco, gedirigeerd door
Carl Marsh begeleidde hen (Marsh Schreef de originele strijkersarrangementen voor de plaat).
