Hip-hop’s brightest young star wordt hij door toonaangevend hip-hoptijdschrift Spin genoemd. Kendrick Lamar is vastbesloten West coast-rap weer op de kaar te zetten. De 25-jarige rapper uit Compton, Californië tekende een contract bij Dr. Dre’s beroemde Aftermath-label en brengt zijn debuutalbum ‘Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City’ uit. Kendrick noemt Tupac, Eminem, Nas en Jay-Z als zijn voornaamste invloeden. Vorig jaar werd de rapper, toen hij tijdens een concert op het podium stond met Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre en Game, door het drietal uitgeroepen tot New king of the West coast.
